Illinois countdown begins

Before I get to the day’s issues, a soapbox…

As a lifelong Packers fan, I dare anyone to find me a coach worse in the big game the last two years than Mike McCarthy.

Let’s review.

For every two steps forward (going from 8-8 to the NFC title game) he has taken two steps back (his coaching and play calling in said NFC title game).

Against Dallas the last two years….he has put his team in a position to win the game in the first quarter, then scrapped the ideas and went against what was working. Last night Aaron Rodgers, who needs the experience in big games, looked sharp, confident, everything you need him to be….then McCarthy opts to run the ball over, and over, and over, and over. Nice one. How’d that work out for you?

By the way, will the Packers ever be able to stop a team in third (or fourth, you’re still welcome Philly) and long?

OK, enough of that.

Here’s today’s column on Daryll Clark.

I really do not sense the team is in danger as long as he keeps going the way he is. He brings a confidence to the team that has been lacking at the position in recent years. Really since Michael Robinson was there.

Can he keep it going? I think so. He embraces the role he plays, he embraces the position and the challenges that await. That doesn’t mean that he won’t struggle in some games, but I have a feeling that he will  be a heckuva lot more accountable than some have been in recent years.
