MADISON, Wis — Check back for updates after the game. Time to head downstairs for postgame.
Aaron Maybin….hellllllllllllllo. A vicious hit on Wisconsin’s John Moffitt as Lydell Sargeant returned his second interception of the game.
The press box nearly crumbles as Jump Around blares over the sound system. Crumbles kinda like Wisconsin’s hopes. Have fun at the Motor City bowl.
Loudest ovation of the night, Dustin Sherer replaces Evridge (maybe for good?) with three minutes remaining in the third. Too little, too late for the Badgers, but Sherer completes two straight to open the drive.
Just for good measure, Kelly adds a field goal to make it 41-7 with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter.
Typical Penn State in 2008, they are doing what they want to do right now.
Case in point, a 25-yard pass to James McDonald, sure.
A 41-yard pass to Deon Butler, yep.
Getting the calls. Making the plays, Penn State has this one locked up.
SECOND QUARTER UPDATES
Clark scores. Safe to say it’s over again. 24-7, White team.
And there is your play. Maybin forces the fumble and Josh Hull recovers. Now we have a pass interference flag on Wisconsin.
Boy, bad possession for Penn State offensively with 1:48 to go in the half. The defense simply cannot allow a score here before the intermission.
The game is literally hanging on a balance beam right now….if the Badgers can score here, it’s a major swing, a Penn State stop and the halftime whistle, the Nits get the ball and can maintain the momentum in the second half.
We have a sign of life on the Badgers sideline…go figure Allan Evridge, the maligned quarterback just runs in for the score. It’s 17-7.
Wisconsin completes a pass, Wisconsin completes a pass!!
Question. How do you kick a team when its down? Have Derrick Williams go 63-yards to the house for a back breaking 63-yard punt return to end this one early.
If this was a fight, Penn State would be Mike Tyson, circa 1985 destroying Leon Spinks in 91 seconds.
Williams’ third return for a touchdown.
I hate to say it, but ball game.
For those itching to see Daryll Clark run the ball more, wish granted. Clark picked up a critical first down with his legs on a designed quarterback zone read.
That set up Evan Royster’s 2-yard run.
FIRST QUARTER UPDATES
This game really should be 10-0, maybe 14-0 already. Wisconsin’s offense rivals Purdue’s as most boring right now. Have to wonder if they are going to make a change at QB here in this first half if Evridge can’t get the sticks moving.
Let’s see, Derrick Williams so far, fumbles a punt, can’t haul in a perfectly thrown ball for a touchdown and catches a one yard pass.
Penn State should have gone for it on fourth down instead of kicking the field goal, but the offensive game plan is pretty good so far.
PREGAME UPDATES
A few pregame notes.
Jordan Norwood looks good during warmups.
Also if you see a number 86 on the field that is Mike Lucian. That means he could quite possibly start the game as long the offensive line and then switch jersey numbers and take 86 to play tight end.
No official update on Joe, but I would expect him to be in the booth.
Paterno, by the way, showed up to the stadium walking with a cane.
