Ohio State In-game blog

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Hold on folks….

Pyror fumbles, thanks to Mark Rubin, Bowman recovers. PAT DEVLIN IN THE GAME…Lions are moving. Developing…

There it goes….Kevin Kelly hooks a 45-yarder that would have tied it. 14:13 left until it’s official. I’d be very, VERY nervous if I am PSU here, the crowd is amped, Pryor has it going, this could turn out very very bad.

The dreams of a BCS title are fading fast into the Columbus cold air…Penn State’s high scoring offense is stuck in neutral and suffering the effects of a 6-3 deficit.

Penn State should consider itself lucky it’s not worse considering the awful play of the secondary. The feeling here is that this is Ohio State’s game to lose, and they won’t. A big play is coming by Terrelle Pryor.

More blown coverage by the PSU secondary, specifically safety Mark Rubin put Ohio State in prime scoring position…like I said this game has a Ohio State feel to it. Ask yourself what an Ohio State feel is….it’s when Craig Krenzel can throw to a wide open Michael Jenkins twice to win games.

Also, Penn State’s secondary has given up two deep Pryor throws, the secondary is getting abused by a freshman (granted it’s no ordinary frosh). But honestly, a Buckeyes score here might do it.

HALFTIME UPDATE

We are at  halftime it’s 3-3, more blown coverage by Penn State has led to a Ryan Pettrey field goal to close the first 30 minutes.

The feel? There isn’t one, but if I had to pick, I’d say it’s an Ohio State type of game. PSU just looks out of sync, but I believe as the game gets longer the Nittany Lion pass rush will step up. Aaron Maybin does have a sack in the first half and torched Bryant Browning around the edge.

SECOND QUARTER UPDATES

Why is Tyrell Sales covering a slot receiver 20 yards down field?

Start of two, we are scoreless.

FIRST QUARTER UPDATES

Deon Butler is guilty of an offensive pass interference on a 3rd-and-9 from the OSU 48. Buckeyes decline, Boone punts, it’s a touchback.

Sidenote: Smart penalty for Butler. He was double covered and the ball looked like it may get picked. Clark released the ball at the very last second.

Another sidenote? PSU comes out swinging early, nothing overly risky. They pitch it to Derrick Williams out of the backfield, then throw it to Brackett.

Drew Astorino starts in place of Anthony Scirrotto who is on the sideline standing next to Tom Bradley.

The corners were Lydell Sargeant and Tony Davis.

Wise move to have Pryor throw early in the series, he has also already beaten Mark Rubin to the edge rather easily for a first down.

PREGAME UPDATE

Notables on the travel roster, defensive end-linebacker Jerome Hayes made the trip, this is his first road trip of the season. He, of course, is out for the year after an ACL tear against Oregon State.

That means Penn State has two players not currently active traveling with the team as linebacker Sean Lee has been on the road all season long.

PRE-PREGAME UPDATE

We are three hours away from kickoff between No. 3 Penn State and No. 9 Ohio State (BCS rankings). A couple of notes for the pre-pregame update.

First, Joe Paterno will be coaching from the press box again tonight, that word circulated Friday night.

Also an interesting note, at the team hotel this morning, players gathered in one of the conference rooms and watched highlights of the 1994 PSU-OSU game won by the Nittany Lions 63-14 at Beaver Stadium.

Interesting.

Most writers on the Buckeyes beat picked OSU to win this game, most writers on the PSU beat picked the Nittany Lions. Go figure. Something has to give.
