Evans files with NFL

Now you might think it’s old news, it sort of is. But as yesterday’s 5pm deadline came and went for underclassmen to declare for the NFL Draft, one name thought to be on that list never showed up.

Penn State defensive end Maurice Evans has filed his paperwork, he is leaving early for the NFL Draft, that is confirmed from Penn State spokesman Guido D’Elia.

How he kept the whole thing silent is beyond me.

Evans’ name appeared on the scout.com NFL draft list and that’s it. Not on ESPN, CBSSports, SI or anything else major, leading to speculation that he was coming back, or maybe there was some other reasoning for whatever was going on. For the record his name still does not appear on the CBSSports underclass list as of this writing at 12:06 p.m. eastern.

Somehow he was able to do this somewhat quietly. But it is confirmed that Mo Evans is gone to the NFL.

UPDATE

Got an e-mail from an alert reader, here’s the deal with the underclass list. Players have 72 hours to take their name out of the draft upon the deadline coming and going to declare. So the final, “official” list of underclass players that entered the draft will be coming out sometime early next week.

Makes sense, however it still baffles me why Evans would leave and why this was all kept hush hush.
